Gualan is Gaelic for shoulder and refers to the shoulder of sand bank across from the house - a great place to walk across to at low tide. Being close to the causeway across to Benbecula places the house so central in the Uists that you can easily tour the entire length and breadth of these stunning islands - all connected by causeways so no need to take a ferry unless you want to head across to Barra for a day trip. The islands are a paradise for birdwatchers, wildlife enthusiast and winter visitors hoping for a show of spectacular Northern Lights. Loch Bee and Balranald are 2 local areas famous for both resident and migratory birds, you will be well rewarded spending some time around this area. Cafes, restaurants, supermarkets and gift shops are all not too far away. An all round superb family house, or just that ultra luxurious nest for a couple for a special occasion. The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Lochmaddy, or Oban to Lochboisdale.
